Yay for Spring. Today was so nice and warm that we went to the park with friends. Lydia loved playing with the kids. I was sitting on the sidelines talking and glancing over to make sure she was still around. I lost sight of her, then one of the moms stepped aside to point out where she was. She was perched on the park bench quite close to a nice looking middle-age man. I could tell she was deep in conversation and he was smirking as he listened. A little alarmed that she was so friendly, I stood up to go get her. I was relieved when someone mentioned that the man was the grandpa of Lydia's friend, Jayci. As I got closer I could hear that she was telling him that when she gets bigger she's going to climb the trees like the squirrels. She spoke to him as if she had known him her whole life.
I said something to her about how nice it was to find a new grandpa and asked if she wanted to come finish her lunch. The new grandpa told me that Lydia informed him that she coughs when she eats. Where did that come from?? I wonder what other tidbits he was lucky enough to hear.
She said to me, "Mom, you go sit over there." That's exactly how she treats me when her real grandpas are around. She wouldn't leave her new grandpa alone. She waited until he was watching every time she went down the slide and when she lost sight of him she said, "Where's my new grandpa?"
She kept bringing him up after we left the park and at dinner tonight. Man, we are sure missing our Grandpas in Utah! They have obviously left a void in her life that she's trying to fill.
Thanks, Jayci, for sharing your grandpa with us today.

Ha! Wouldn't you love to know what's going on inside Lydia's head?
Hmm, I thought I was the only one who wanted to climb trees like squirrels when I grew up! Cute little Lydia cracks me up. I love how she told you where to sit. Ha ha!
