Sweet Southern Delights

We love living in the south. It's a whole new experience for us. When I found out we were moving to the south I realized that two of my lifelong dreams could come true.

1) See fireflies

2) See a possum hanging upside down.
Thanks to Doug the first one just came true. When he saw them out on the lawn this evening he was so excited to let us know that he ran right through his screen door to call us. Thanks, Doug! It was totally worth it. Now that's friendship!

My hopes of ever seeing an opossum were recently crushed to pieces. I was teaching Lydia about nocturnal animals and found out Possums (or Opossums if you will) are nocturnal. I kept reading and found out they actually DON'T hang upside down. What!?! I feel so betrayed. This picture must have been staged. I spent HOURS of our trip down to Florida staring up into the trees of the swamps trying to find my possum snoozing up in a tree hanging by its tail. Since then I've seen quite a few "dead" on the roadside. I guess that counts.

haha. knowing the possums don't actually hang upside down suddenly makes that picture so funny. you can sort of tell that it's unnatural by the possums feet... he definitely looks like he's thinking "what the heck have you done to me!? get me down from here now!" :)

and i seriously think fireflies are one of my favorite things about this planet.

So glad you saw the fireflies!

And I so SO wish you could have seen Doug run right into that screen door. It was like a cartoon.
