G that was fun!

A few posts ago I wrote about my family's tradition to go on mystery trips. Josh and I thought it would be a great idea to incorporate that principle into our Friday night dates. So, we take turns planning mystery dates. This last one was my turn to plan.
I had planned for us to hike to the Y, but our babysitters all live closer to the G so I change our destination. For any non-Utahns, someone had the great idea to place these huge letters up on the mountains along the Wasatch Front. There's a U for the University of Utah, a G for Pleasant Grove, and a Y for BYU. The joke when we were little is that they should put an L for Lindon so the Wasatch front would spell UGLY. HA HA....
Anyway, we dropped Lydia off, picked up some Italian Place sandwiches for dinner and drove to the trail head. Josh had no idea where what we were doing until we were actually hiking up the mountain. I'm so sneaky! I hadn't done this hike in a long time and I didn't realize how intense it is. It's pretty short, but it literally goes straight up the mountain. No Zigzagging back and forth like the hike to the Y. I made Josh carry the backpack. He kept commenting on how heavy it was.
I didn't account for the 95 degree weather- isn't it supposed to cool down in the evening!?! We drank a ton of water on the way up. We were exhausted when we got to the G. We had a nice little picnic and then I pulled out the sparkling cider. He rolled his eyes and said, "you had me carry this up the mountain?!" But it was romantic, right? It was such a beautiful view with the lake in the background. Sometimes I forget we live so close to such a big body of water.
To top of the evening we saw one of these beauties. It took us right back to the first night Josh and I spent time together. It wasn't really a date because we were at an activity and we ended up leaving together to hang out. I challenged him to run toward one of these speedometers and see how fast we could run. They really do clock humans, not just cars. I think he got up to 16 miles per hour and I was around 14. That was the first time that sparks flew-thanks to me. He may try and tell you he was the first to initiate, but it was really me. We would have tried it again for old time's sake, but we had jello legs from the hike.
I can't wait until the next mystery date.

What a great idea to do mystery dates! And I am very impressed at how diligent you guys are at doing the Friday night dates. I'm adding that to my list of "musts when you're married."

I absolutely love that idea! We've been making plans of how to have more date nights and what to do, etc, etc. but now I think we have a perfect solution...mystery date nights! You guys are awesome. Take Care!

Wow you guys inspire me! Troy and I have been horrible at date nights, but now we do missionary work together once a week for our dates. Did I tell you my first investigator is getting baptized this week?! We'll have to take a page out of your book and do something romantic once and a while too :)
