Time Out

"Mommy, Big Bird needs to be obedient in time out"

All of the changes over the last month have brought out some interesting changes in Lydia. She's now two and she's really testing her limits as a terrible two year old. We've recently started doing time outs on the stairs. She got in trouble and I was lecturing her about being obedient as I put her in time out. Now she thinks "being obedient" means sitting on the stairs in time out.

She's the queen of testing me. She will do something naughty, look at me and say "I need to go to time out." She'll laugh all the way to the stairs and talk and giggle as the timer ticks away. What kind of a punishment is that? I think kids are so much smarter than we give them credit for.

Lydia has also been running away from me in public places. It makes my blood boil. I really think she can sense that I am the size of a whale and I'm not quite as spry as I once was. We were at the swimming pool in the 4 ft deep part. I was letting her jump to me off the side of the pool. I put her up to jump and she took off RUNNING down the edge of the pool-laughing her head off. If you've seen the little mermaid you'll be able to picture me like Ursula in the last scene of the movie where she uses her arms to pull her massive self out of the water and crawl around on the ship. That's exactly how I felt. I was panicked that she would slip and fall into the pool as she ran all the way down the side of the pool, along the back end and almost all the way down the other side before the lifeguard stopped her for me. Needless to say that was the end of our swimming trip.

How will I survive with two?? I'm really starting to get nervous. Will is due in 6 weeks and I'm already losing my mind.

We went to Maymont Park in downtown Richmond and it was sooooo hot. Lydia got a "White Snow Cone" aka cup of ice. Josh & Lydia at Maymont watching the big black bear. They had a black bear and bald eagles, it was really neat.

I forgot to ask if you ended up going to Maymont. Pretty sweet, eh?

PS- If you're Ursula, then you're the prettiest one I've ever seen. :)
